Fishing Huts on the Gironde
A tranquil and mysterious time on the
Estuary... misty mornings, bright jewel-like days, good for birdwatching
and bracing walks.

Mist on the marais
There's nothing better than
coming back to your cottage and lighting a wood fire. In addition
to the logs we supply, you can have fun collecting driftwood and pine
cones (for added crackle and flare!)

Côte Sauvage
Whole beaches to oneself... The first
stirrings of Spring in garden and hedgerow. Brocantes start up
again in earnest, marked by the mimosa fair on Ile d'Oleron.

Ile d'Oleron
For the uninitiated, a brocante is a
glorified car-boot sale with a smattering of genuine antiques.
Most villages hold at least one during the year and it's yet another
excuse for festivity!

Storks nesting
Birds and animals are all getting busy
now; the sun is warm and it's a pleasure to be out.

Giraffe being fed
At La Palmyre zoo (near Royan) they even
encourage you to feed the inmates with popcorn - and there are usually
some babies to be admired.

Easter Bunny
Charente Maritime is famous for the
quality of its fresh produce, from land and sea. Markets are thriving
again in Spring - and boulangeries go all out to tempt those with a
sweet tooth.

Ponies in woodland
Trees are bursting into leaf and woods
are full of birdsong. From the garden one can often hear
nightingales and cuckoos.
