Orchid
Chalky hillsides and damp meadows are home to a wealth
of wildflowers and fascinating insects.

Coypu
Ponds and waterways on the marais are colonised by
families of coypu, who like to enjoy a leisurely swim on balmy evenings.

Hollyhocks in Talmont
Visitors come from miles
around to enjoy the hollyhocks at Talmont, a nearby village.
They seed themselves everywhere, including our garden, and continue
flowering for months. The weather can be sublime but beaches almost empty as summer
holidays don't start for another month.

Cycling along the Estuary
It's a wonderful experience to go cycling along the
Estuary, particularly at sundown when you can watch the light change
from gold to red over the water.

Hacking across country
Riding
is also a pleasure, at almost any time of year. |

A photo opportunity
Those legendary fields of gold come into their own towards the end of
the month. Rolling hillsides bask in the heat and it's time to
rest under a shady tree, or head for the beach.

Tina in full swing!
Down on the Plage des Nonnes, Tina's Bar rocks into
the night with an eclectic mix of musicians. As a change from
French food, there's a Tex-Mex buffet - and the atmosphere is distinctly
"laid-back"!
- AUGUST -

Royan beach
Royan's beaches are for people-watching - and those stylish stripey tents. It's also worth
looking out for free concerts and
fireworks in the evening.

Pineau festival
In the nearby village of Epargnes, they hold a
three-day Pineau festival. It's a chance for producers to showcase
their wares, whilst consumers get to enjoy the barbecue and some
folkloric dancing!
