Reed beds along the coast
Another good month for walking, cycling
and birdwatching along the shore. Many tourists have gone now but
it's still hot enough to enjoy a boat trip and see the caves at
Meschers.

Modern grape harvesters
The grape harvest, or
"vendange", starts here in early October and lasts a couple of
weeks.

Black kite
It's a common sight to see buzzards perched in
vineyards beside the road. Meanwhile, kites and harriers patrol
the marais and flocks of migrating birds pass overhead.

Our valley in Autumn
Days are crisper, roads quieter and
colours more autumnal now. Farmers are busy tidying their
vineyards and ploughing sharp furrows across the landscape.

Market at Cozes
Christmas markets are full of tempting
meats and seafood, with oysters a speciality of the region.

Stall in Royan
Royan
has a collection of stalls around its Christmas tree, selling mainly
handicrafts, and there's a skating rink on the seafront. (It's a season
of festivity, without too much commercialism.)
